Metaphor
Metaphor
We delved more deeply into the significance of the lamp for our persona - a SIAT academic advisor – and her work environment. In the process of developing a suitable metaphor, we decided to revise the lamp design so that it represents both the “arts’ and the “technology” aspects of SIAT. Hence the sailboat metaphor:
The folded/patterned paper: used in the top section, the perceived qualities of the carefully hand-made paper – flexibility, fluidity/movement – help to reinforce the “Arts” aspect of SIAT. According to the sailboat metaphor, the paper would represent the floating sails.
Cement base: the rigid nature of cement is used as the base to hold the lamp stable. According to the metaphor, the cement base would serve as the boat.
